    The case style is not one we see often, in fact, I never have. It took a hit or two in the ride from Texas. I touched 3-4 small nicks with a red mahogany pencil stain and now the nicks are hard to find. The 8 day movement is running up a storm, striking the half hours on a cathedral bell. Convex dial and convex glass. The catalogs call the dial a “New convex 5-inch dial”. It is different, I guess paint on metal, but typical of Seth Thomas dials, it is beginning to flake in the lower half. Movement is signed with the ST logo and “89”. Ly-Seth Thomas #1257.

    Condition: Rosewood veneered case in good condition, attractively re-finished. There is a small piece of veneer missing on the right side bottom edge and a small ding on the back edge. Dial paper has been replaced, however the dial pan is not lined up properly with the movement and it is difficult to wind.. Hands are original. Partial label on the back. Movement is signed. Most of the rosewood veneer on the case is good condition, but there is a filled in repair on the door and veneer loss on the base; an attractive base molding (1/8 inch) has been added that looks fine and could be removed if you are a purist. As typical of Seth Thomas dials this is also flaking and will need restoration. There is a clean label in the case. This clock uses movement described as 9A-T in Owen Burt’s cottage clock literature, a bit more desirable than the 30 hour versions. (Note bell removed temporarily for foto of label.) Clean and running. Height 10 inches

    This clock was a gift to Mr. Bachman”s parents in 1916, and shows no evidence of repairs or service. It does still tick and chime, although a bit sluggish. Mahogany case retains original finish, now with crazing and orange peel. I would think that many of you would like to buy a one owner like this and do your own cleaning. Height 9.5′

    this is the smallest of the Sonora Chime clocks, and has unusual Deco-style “S. T.” hands. The silvered dial has minor tarnish, and the original surface has alligatered uniformly. The convex beveled glass is fine. The two movements appear clean and complete, and they tick, strike and chime properly but were not tested long term.

    Jul 2020 – 143 Antique American Clocks Seth Thomas “Chime Clock No. 7” ca. 1915. This Sonora chime strikes on four bells and, as you would expect, sounds great. Westminster chimes on the quarter hours and counts the hours on all four bells on the hour. The adamantine case is 13.25 inches tall and 11 inches wide, with no chips or scrapes. The silvered convex dial shows some wear and sits behind a convex beveled glass. The hands are correct, the signed movement is running and chiming as expected. You can silence the chimes with a slider bar on the right. This model sells on eBay for around $250.

Clock is running and striking properly. Ly-Seth Thomas No. 724.

    This is a nice set to collect if you want to impress folks about your knowledge of Ivy League schools. According to the catalogs all six were made of old oak, 23 inches high, were 8 day, half hour strike on a Cathedral bell, and had six inch dials. Now that we have established how they were all made, this one is not oak but walnut. It is time, strike, and alarm, and has two labels, both about 75% intact. Clock is running, all original finish and wood parts. The factory stamp on the back indicates it was made Sept. 1897. Ly-Seth Thomas #1103.

Tablet is original, but has been out of the case. Hands are modern replacements. Label is Thomaston and movement is marked Plymouth.     Jan 2022 – #111 Antique American Clocks Seth Thomas “Dayton”, A “City Series” clock that my mentor built his reputation on as someone who, after many years, managed to own every City Series clock (and name some as well). This Dayton is in a 16-inch oak case with an old finish; the glass is wavy, the dial looks to have been repainted with the ST logo and name, the hands are correct. The rugged 8-day, time-and-strike lyre movement is signed and running, striking on a cathedral gong; there is a Seth Thomas label on the door to access the pendulum and key. The Dayton is an uncommon model; the most recent sale I can find was at RO Schmitt’s in 2018 for $275, also in oak.

    This clock came to us as a “Toledo” model which is more commonly seen. The “Dayton” is very rare, this maybe only the second one I have ever seen. A date stamp on the back of the case is “1889”. 8 day, cathedral gong strike, replaced paper dial, full black label, correct pendulum, clock is running. There is a door on the base of this model. The latch needed repair which should have been an easy fix, but some mechanical engineer installed a magnet latch. Ly-Seth ThomasNo.187.
