About the Seth Thomas “New Sucile” Clock

The Seth Thomas “New Sucile” clock, manufactured around 1917, showcases a striking red mahogany case with an adamantine finish and distinctive adamantine onyx columns and sides. Despite never undergoing a cleaning, the clock’s gold-plated metal ornaments and feet exhibit signs of age, with some gold peeking through, suggesting potential restoration to its original luster.

The clock features an 8-day movement that strikes the hours and half hours on a cathedral bell, accompanied by a convex 5-inch dial and convex glass encased within a dull gilt sash. The painted metal dial appears to have great potential if only cleaned. Measuring 16 inches wide and 11 inches high, this clock is nearly complete and original, with the exception of a missing back door. Identified by the Ly-Seth Thomas number #1196, this mantle clock offers a unique blend of vintage charm and craftsmanship.

The signed 8-day, time-and-strike movement is running and striking on a brass bell, and the calendar is advancing. Horton’s sold one in 2017 for $350.

Many nails of brass, more for looks than holding anything together. The case is 22.5″ high, has been refinished, I can’t imagine that job.
