Seth Thomas Clock Co. wall clock, “Regulator No.2”, ca 1913.
Undoubtedly America’s most poplar clock. They must have made millions of them and it is still one of the best sellers that we have. The case is made of old oak veneer, 36 inches high. The color and veneer are good except some minor loss on the base. There is a small section to reveneer if you can do it yourself, otherwise I wouldn’t worry about it as it is hardly noticeable. There is an old label inside the case.An 8 day, time only, weight movement. It has Graham dead beat escapement, maintaining power, and is running very strong. It has strong, well finished plates that are secured to an iron back plate. Dial has been nicely repainted. The brass accessories appear to be original to this clock. Ly-Seth Thomas, page 110-111.

Seth Thomas “Regulator No. 2”, ca 1875.
This is the early or old style No. 2. This 34 inch walnut veneered clock has been restored, dial was repainted some time ago as there is now some slight flaking of the black paint. This glass is pictured in the catalogs on the Regulator No.1 models, which means it may not be original to this clock, but there is a slight chance it could be. It has one of the finest sliding partitions with a full label and paper beat scale that we have seen. As you know the label is glued to the sliding partition and will usually be pretty ragged or missing after 125 years of wear and tear. 8 day, time only, weight movement. The weight comes down behind the sliding partition. We see quite a few of the early No.2 models, but don’t see very many this nice. Ly-Seth Thomas, page 110.

Seth Thomas Clock Co. “Regulator No.2”, ca 1922.
Seth Thomas Clock Co. “Regulator No.2”, ca 1922. This style base was not used on the No.2 until 1922. Medium oak case, 35 1/2 inches, with old crazing, never cleaned. Good brass beat scale, weight, and pendulum. A very nice original dial with seconds dial, glasses have always been in this case. Unless I overlooked something insignificant this clock is 100% original. Ly-Seth Thomas, pages 110-111.

C.1980, Seth Thomas, Regulator No. 2, in oak, 8-day weight driven, home-made case with 1942 [dated] mov’t and dial.
Condition: mov’t is clean, properly signed and in running condition. Dial is ST issue from about 1942 also, still crisp. Weight is proper. The case is made of oak veneered ply-wood, much like the originals, but there are nails, extra glue blocks, mis-aligned Philips screws, and masonite sheet on rear that betray its origin. Now despite all of this, it runs briskly and has a great golden oak finish, and as you can see is very photogenic. Height 34 inches

C.1895, Seth Thomas, “Regulator No. 2′ in oak, and in very good original condition.
This clock is certainly close in condition to the previous lot, the dial with some flakes and the finish with some dirt and fly specs. Still, this clock retains the large no. 77B move-ment with retained filister screws. Old oxidized finish on brass bob and weight and will fill the bill for those that prefer the “Antique’ look. Note suspension spring is tweaked to one side and will need replacing, although runs OK as-is; dark label inside floor of case; height 34′

This clock is certainly a close second to the previous lot. Still the original dial is wonderful, the overall case is a honey color, and all hardware is original; weight wound up in photo; height 34′

C.1879, Seth Thomas Clock Co., “Regulator No. 2”, 8-day rosewood wall timepiece.
Veneer wise the case is in very good condition. There is minor veneer damage on the hinge side of the bezel and some veneer loss on the bottom bracket (not easily seen). The original tablet has some loss to the gold leaf design in the center, but is overall very good. The clock has an extra nice touch in that the area the where the dial mounts has been artificially grained (original). The lower key lock door retains original gold leafed border in excellent order The original dial has some paint flaking, and bears the name of jeweler from West Virginia (R. H. Nefflen) . The seconds hand is included, but we could not put it on, as the suspension spring has been lengthened just enough that the cross bar interferes with the second hand (this is repairable). Despite some minor items that need attention, this clock is in very good original condition. Height 34Ó $2,000-$2,500

This is an early “Regulator No. 2” in a rosewood veneered and grained case. This nice clock has a seconds dial found on some examples. Typical square plate, lantern pinion movement developed by S. B. Terry. This nice example has an original finish and with the exception of blemish on the upper door with needs attention, the veneer is in good condition. Dial has been nicely repainted on the original dial pan by The Dial House. This clock has a very good paper index and black label on a sliding panel inside the case. It also has a scarce brass pendulum bob with the Plymouth Hollow green, monument and churches embossed on it. The very detailed “Regulator” glass has been reblacked, but original gilt is in very good condition with loss only in one area. The upper glass is original and even the gilt around the lower glass is in good shape. Height 34Ó $1,500-$2,000

Seth Thomas No. 2 Regulator clock.
This is the limited reissue from Seth Thomas in the 1980’s I think. There is a good label in the bottom which says it is No. 1873 of 4000. This is a very well made clock, true to the original design. The clock appears to have never been used so it is as perfect as the day it was made. Solid oak case, good label, excellent dial, brass weight, pendulum bob and pulley, just like the original model. It is an 8 day timepiece in good running order. 36″ tall.

Seth Thomas No. 2 Regulator clock.
This is a fairly modern reproduction that may be 10-20 years old. It is unsigned so we do not know who made it. It has a solid oak case, a painted dial, correct style hands and proper brass weight, pendulum bob and beat scale. It is all without blemish and it looks great. 8 day timepiece in good running order.

Seth Thomas No. 2 Regulator.
One of the very best you are likely to find and in the very best case – cherry. A very hard example to find and the condition is wonderful. Original from top to bottom with a great dial plus the correct hands, pendulum, weight, pulley, beat scale, glass, label and key. Excellent original finish and perfect veneer. It is in good running order. 35 12″ tall.

Seth Thomas Clock Co. “Regulator No. 2”, ca 1889.
An interesting clock for historical reasons, not for the clock itself. I first thought it was a reproduction case because the light oak case was so rubbed out and cleaned. On the back of the case is the factory mark indicating it was made in 1889. The brass movement, pendulum, weight, dial and hands, are all ST original stock and in excellent condition, with a smidgen of paint loss on the dial. Inside in the usual place is a black ST label. It has been overpasted with a label that says in part, “B. M. Boyce (Benjamin/Son in Law of Daniel Pratt, Jr.) Daniel Pratt’s Sons”. After the death of Daniel Pratt, Jr., Benjamin Boyce and Daniel Ford Pratt continued the Pratt business. Pratt (the son) withdrew in 1880 and Boyce continued the Pratt business alone in Boston, Mass. I can find no research indicating he ever sold Seth Thomas clocks, or anyone else’s clocks, but here it is. NAWCC Bulletin, June 1996, page 320. See also clock No. 15 below. Both came from the same collector.

Seth Thomas Clock Co. “Regulator No. 2”, ca 1880.
Mahogany case is 36″ high and is clean and polished. It is relatively free of any smoke or black stains. It even looks clean inside and on the back. There is a very nice painted dial, signed by Seth Thomas, and has three correct hands. There is a wood brace behind the dial as many Seth Thomas regulators have, and there are two screws thru the dial just outside the seconds ring. I do not think I have seen that brace used on the No. 2 regulators before, but are most always found on the larger regulators. The dial has some fading but very little paint loss. Signed 8 day brass movement is running. The brass bob has been polished, brass weight was not. It has the correct brass beat scale and pulley. Good original glasses, door lock, and most of the old paper label inside. Better than the average No. 2 but you will find some edge nicks, especially on the bezel. Ly-Seth Thomas, pages 276-277.

Seth Thomas Clock Co. “Regulator No. 2”, ca 1890.
This old clock hung in a RR station for most of 100 years, accumulating a whole lot of smoke. You can tell from the back side it was pretty black before it got a cleaning. I guess the old dial got beat to death for they have put a new painted dial on the case. There is most of an old dirty label inside, correct hands, brass beat scale, brass bob, wood stick, brass weight, brass winding crank and door key, brass door lock, and brass ring around the glass in the door, all look to be original to this case. The oak case is 36″ high, complete, and all original except for the dial pan. There is a provenance label on the back indicating the clock was serviced in 1934 and a couple of times after that. Charges were $2.50. Ly-Seth Thomas, pages 276278.

Seth Thomas Clock Co., Thomaston, Conn., “Regulator No. 2”, oak 8 day, time only weight driven, c1900
This appears to be an older refinished case with newly painted dial and correct but unsigned newer movement. The painted dial and wood case are in very nice condition, with a few small age splits in the round bezel. The brass weight shell, beat scale and pendulum bob still are mostly shiny, although the weight cap needs to be secured. The partial bottom label is dark, and a larger seconds bit is needed. The movement, with maintaining power, should be serviced. Ht 36″.

Seth Thomas Clock Co., Thomaston, Conn., “Regulator No. 2”, 8 day wall time piece, c1874.
Refinished mahogany veneer case in good condition. One small area of veneer on the door is raised and has a hairline crack. Bottom bracket is cracked on the right side and was most likely veneered originally. There has been a repair to the backboard. A piece of molding on the bottom right side of the case is the wrong type. Grain painting on the area behind the dial has been sanded off on the edges. Original painted dial has yellowed a little with very tiny chips in a couple of places and some loss at the mounting screws. Hands, pendulum and weight are original. Nice label inside case. Ht 34″

C.1890, Seth Thomas Regulator No. 2 in poor to fair, as-found condition, with advertising dial.
The oak case lost its lower door and now has a replacement from Merritts. The bob was lost from the pendulum and a smaller one has been substituted, also seconds hand missing (replacements for both items are available from Timesavers). The weight was lost and this is a very good home-made substitute that runs the clock just fine. The original dial has wear and flaking and the numerals have been dressed up with black crayon. A professional could save this dial and strengthen the original ad which reads: Greenleaf and Crosby Co, Jewelers, 25 E. Bay St., Jacksonville, also at St. Augustine and Palm Beach. Lots of potential here. Height 35″

C.1900, Seth Thomas, “Regulator No. 2” in oak and in very good original condition.

Although not quite 100 years old, this is a fine example of this model in a super light golden color. The case retains original finish, the front waxed and rubbed to a high sheen (this bezel is made of 8 segments of solid oak with attractive grain). Minor flakes on the original dial; hands, weight, pulley and pend all old and good. The movement has been cleaned and re-strung and this clock is ready to enjoy. Height 35 1/2″

C.1899 (dated), Seth Thomas, “Regulator No. 2” in walnut and in good original condition.
The only item that keeps this clock from being excellent is a small veneer repair on the bow-tie, under the numeral 5. The finish of the case has some crazing and alligator surface but is overall very good. Original weight and pendulum intact as well, and with original label in case bottom (with some losses). Also note hand tension spring is weak and minute hand slips in some positions (runs fine). Also with stenciled production date on rear, March 1899. Height 36″

C.1890, Seth Thomas, Regulator No. 2, in very good original condition, except for the repainted dial.
The case has been wiped down with vinegar and linseed oil, and most of the old finish is still present; it is a mellow caramel color. Inside of case is clean as a whistle, and the inside label is still good (minor losses). The dial was refinished long ago, before brand stencils were available and the company name is lettered in along the bottom margin by hand; still, the large numerals were painted by a good artist who captured the essence very well (certainly not worth re-doing). The movement has been re-cabled and is in good running order. Height 36″

C.1870, Seth Thomas, Thomaston, Conn, Regulator No. 2 in good original condition.
There is some minor touch up to the screened tablet and it has been re-blacked on the rear. The bezel retains original veneer, with a couple of dry splits (looks fine). The inside baffle, beat scale and label are excellent. Something different for the collector who is used to No. 2s made near the turn of the century. Height 34″

C.1947 (dated), Seth Thomas, Regulator No. 2 in oak and in very good original condition.
This clock is among the last of the No.2s produced (1950 was the last year), and is complete with original dated label on the rear, showing manufacture by ST division of General Time Corp. Note production shortcuts at this time have the bezel made in 4 sections instead of 8. This one warped a bit and has been re-glued and screwed from the rear to stabilize it (decent job). The quarter sawn oak is especially attractive, and the movement has been re-cabled and is running well. Minor wear to numerals on original dial. Note, post war models like this have a spring/bullet latch for the door in lieu of a key lock. Height 35 1/2″

SETH THOMAS No. 2 wall regulator. Round top solid Oak case with painted original dial; brass weight.
Round top solid Oak case with painted original dial; brass weight. By far the best selling clock in our long history in the business has been the venerable . They came in several different case woods and this one is solid OAK. The eight-day brass movement is original to the case and bears the ST logo and USA on the brass front plate (see photograph). The original label on the inside floor of the case is in an amazingly good state of preservation (see photograph). Unlike so many Seth Thomas No. 2’s the dial on this clock retains its original paint with some fill-ins and touch-ups…without being distracting at all. As with all our clocks, we have priced this quality clock at levels below most others on the internet. Insured shipping is available throughout the Continental United States. Height: 36 in. Round top, solid Oak weight-powered wall clock.
The demand for Seth Thomas No. 2 wall regulators has been dramatically growing year after year. These fine clocks were used in railroad stations, banks; hotel lobbies and business offices for decades due to their very excellent timekeeping and handsome, solid appearance. They were made in a variety of woods…some veneered and some in solid Oak like this one. The top wooden bezel was made in eight sections which over the years often shrank a bit allowing a slight separation between each section. This one is no exception. The sections are solid however with only minor lines between each segment (see photograph). The brass movement has been polished, cleaned, serviced and oiled for proper operation. Prices for these fine clocks have been increasing rapidy…so this one…at only $1950 represents a bargain in anyone’s language!! Shipping is available throughout the Continental United States. Seth Thomas “Regulator No. 2”, ca 1911, and so stamped on the back of the case.
This 36.5 inches case was made with old oak, retains the original finish and has all 5 little buttons on the base. We have not had, or seen, a better No. 2 case. There is an excellent brass beat scale, has a good amount of the paper label in the bottom, super old dial with original paint, (any paint flakes are not worth mentioning, normally a Seth Thomas dial this old has been repainted at least once), and a near perfect brass weight and pendulum bob. The 8 day, time only movement is correct for this model, and is running properly. Ly-Seth Thomas, 2004 Edition, pages 276- 277, lists current value $2000-$2200.

Seth Thomas “Regulator No. 2”, Ca 1920.
Mahogany veneer case is 36.5 inches high, which in itself dates the clock after 1913. There is no veneer on the bezel, it was stained to match the rest of the case. It is a little rough where the veneer was scraped off. The 8-day movement is not signed, has not been out of the case that I can tell. I would service and change the weight cord as soon as possible. It has been in storage for several years. The original zinc dial is very good for its age, slightly dirty and has a little flake or two. The original screws, in the original holes, lead me to believe the clock has not been played with. All the brass; weight, bob, beat scale, pulley, and dial ring are all in good condition. For some reason the crutch has been extended, perhaps to fit a new stick. The clock is running despite these deficiencies. Most of the black label remains in the base. The ride from Oregon in a U-Haul trailer left some skinned places, but they should clean up fine. Ly-Seth Thomas, 2004 Edition, pages 276-277.

Seth Thomas “Regulator No. 2”, ca 1920.
Mahogany veneer case is 36.5 inches high, overall in much better condition than No. 260A, the main difference is that the veneer is tight, no scrapes or patches. There are the usual nicks where Bubba bumped into door jams when carrying the clock. Everything looks to be original on this case, glasses, good zinc dial, weight, very nice damascened pendulum, beat scale, and the black label inside. The time only, 8-day movement has been in the case over 85 years, clean and running, and signed. There is a label and the dial is signed. This case showed signs of clocks sliding over each other on the ride from Oregon. I put some NuLife on the wood and it looks 100% better. There was no veneer damage. Very nice accessories, weight, pendulum, beat scale, pulley, and bezel ring. Ly-Seth Thomas, 2004 Edition, pages 276-277.

Seth Thomas walnut Regulator No. 2, all in a box like tinker toys.
Despite being totally disassembled the main missing items are the two case side boards and the backboard. The dial-bezel assembly is complete, (no glass) missing only one small, easily made wedge shaped piece of wood. The dial has some flaking. The cellophane was to hold the bezel together. The lower door is complete with old glass, hinges, and lock. All the hard to make bottom trim is there. Includes a bag of original No. 2 hardware (screws, door lock, hanger and bracket, and bezel latch), even includes an original dial stiffener board.

Seth Thomas early “Regulator No.2”, ca 1863-1875.
A continuation of the Silas B. Terry regulators of the same design. 34 inch walnut veneer case needs some minor veneer repair and this clock would be near perfect. 8 day time only movement. Nice original painted dial on the old zinc pan, great full label on the sliding partition that covers the weight chute. The old flat weight descends behind the partition. Some gold paint on the glass is gone but the glass has been backed with black paint to hold the remaining gold. Ly-Seth Thomas No.364,365,368.

Seth Thomas Clock Co. “Regulator No. 2”, ca 1930Õs.
Ly-Seth Thomas No. 367 gives the date as 1938, but actually this style base, Arabic dial, plain glass, came into production in 1929. The quartered oak, 36 inch case, has been refinished, stained and polished to appear more mahogany or cherry, thanoak. Old dial has had new holes drilled so that the screws would fit tight, and the opening around the seconds bit has been filled in to appear smaller, and touched up with a not so white paint. Brass is polished bright. Eventhough I have pointed out some deficiencies this is a beautiful clock, thewood grain is just outstanding. Anyone should be happy to hang this in theirhome. 8 day, time only movement No. 77A (80 beats per minute) is used in thismodel. There is a full label on the back of the case.

Seth Thomas “Regulator No. 2”, ca 1913 to 1922.
36-1/2 inch cases were not used until 1913, this style base was only used until 1922, and Roman numeralswere only used until 1929. Oak case is in original condition. Old reddishvarnish or something was put on the case years ago, while the inside is alighter oak which is original. 8 day, weight, time only movement has theGraham dead beat escapement, maintaining power, wood rod is suspended fromthe movement and iron back plate. 80 beats to the minute. Original dial hasbeen repainted, good black label inside. Brass accessories are clean andrecently polished. Ly-Seth Thomas No. 362.

Seth Thomas Clock Co. “Regulator No. 2”, ca 1909.
Repair dates marked on the case and dial back to 1919. Everything about the clock is original and is generally in very good condition. Old “NCR-3460” New York Central Railroaddial, has the normal wear for Seth Thomas dials of this age, most of theold label remains in the base, good glasses, brass movement, bezel, pendulum, are all in untouched condition. The mahogany case has been refinished, now a much lighter shade. They put a coat of shellac or similar finish onthe wood which gives it a shine. I checked the movement and it is correctand like the movement in Ly-Seth Thomas No. 368, and the clock is identicalto No. 362. Old mahogany veneer case is 34 inches long, perhaps a chip or two, nothing worth writing about, movement secured to an iron bracket, 8 day timeonly, 80 beats to the minute, and running very good.

Seth Thomas “Regulator No. 2”, early model, ca 1878.
This tablet was only used by Seth Thomas from 1878 to 1880, and seconds bit started in 1879, so that only leaves 1878 as the date this clock was made. For lack of other information I often use the date by the clock in the catalogs, but more times than not the catalog date is not the date when a clock was made, it is only the date it was pictured in the companyÕs trade booklet. These early Seth regulators were 34 inches high, walnut veneer cases, 8 day time only movement, large flat weight descending behind a sliding partition, full label on the partition. The clock runs real well, appears to be all original, a few chips of veneer missing on the rounded bezel, some gold paint loss but majority still intact. Has been rebacked to hold the remaining gold. Original paint on the old zinc dial is very good. Overall a near perfect example of a very early regulator. Ly-Seth Thomas No. 364.

Seth Thomas Clock Co. “Regulator No. 2” early model, ca between 1878-1880.
Rosewood veneered case is 34 inches long, has only a moderate number of bruises, no chips to speak of. Both doors have hook latches. Someone tried to install a knob on the lower door and left a hole to be filled. Old glass lost some of backing, new black paint has been put on where feasible, overall a good looking early glass. It is shown in Ly-Seth Thomas on an early No. 1 Regulator, clock No. 359. The old dial has been repainted very professionally. One really nice feature is the full label on the original sliding partition. That is a real plus. The flat iron weight is also original for this model. Now what it all boils down to is, this is a great early regulator with only one fault, the small hole in the lower door, and it should be an easy fix. In case you wondered why I said Ca 1878-1880, this base was only in use until 1880, this glass was only used between 1878 and 1880, there were no seconds bit on this model until 1879.

Seth Thomas, “Regulator No. 2”, C. 1913-1921. This is an unusual quartered oak veneer case.
Some of the wood grain designs they disclosed by sawing the wood different ways, is astonishing. The case height of 36.5″ helped me determine the age of this clock. Probably America’s most poplar wall weight clock, the majority were made of oak and oak veneer. What has made it such a good seller other than the name Seth Thomas is the simple case style, good case work, the heavy brass accessories, and it is an excellent timekeeper. 8 day time, weight clock, has a movement with strong, well finished plates, held to the case by an iron bracket, with Graham dead beat escapement, wood rod, brass covered zinc ball, and has maintaining power. The new 12″ dial pan is a repaint, and there is a good old label in the case. The case and brass have not been cleaned or refinished. Ly-Seth Thomas, pages 110-111.

Seth Thomas hanging clock, “Regulator No. 2”, C. 1913.
Cherry case 36.5″ high. According to available records ST did not made cherry cases after 1913, and the cases were 36.5″ after 1913, 34″ before 1913. Some may call it refinished, I call it cleaned. It was a clock my wife used in the kitchen for a long time, until we played musical clocks recently. I kept it adjusted to within a minute a month. The 8 day movement is clean, running, signed. I can’t see any tracks of a recent dial painter, but the dial is too nice not to have been repainted. It hasn’t been off the case many times because the original tiny screws are still in the same tiny holes, very unusual. All the brass is original, weight, bob, beat scale, and hardware. After all the glowing remarks I must say the back of the case looks like it was drug down the street behind a tow truck. I guess that doesn’t hurt it but thankfully we don’t have to look at the back. Read Ly-Seth Thomas, pages 110-111 to learn more about these old clocks.

Seth Thomas, “Regulator No. 2”, C. 1913-1922.
Some latitude there because ST didn’t make 36.5″ cases until 1913, prior they were 34″, and the dials had Roman numerals until 1921, and this base style was only used until 1922. As stated this nice polished old oak case is 36.5″ high, has a very good old zinc painted dial, weight, pendulum, beat scale, and label in the base is about 90% there. Movement is 8 day, powered by 1 large shining brass weight. Heavy brass plates secured to an iron bracket, Graham dead beat escapement, wood rod, brass pendulum ball, has maintaining power. Attractive dark oak case retains the original finish with crazing. It has led a sheltered life. Ly-Seth Thomas #362.

Seth Thomas “Regulator No. 2”, C. early 1900’s, between 1913-1922.
Mahogany case is, or should be, 36.5″ high. Note the very bottom trim piece is missing and a new design was proudly added by an aspiring craftsman. Thank goodness it isn’t securely attached. When I first saw this clock I thought it was pretty sorry, but after closer inspection I see a $1500-$2000 clock with proper attention. The original dial is great. Usually they have been repainted, or should be, by this time. The signed 8 day, weight movement, looks like it has never been out of the case, dirty, needs to be restrung. The mahogany is almost perfect, just very dead looking. Some good polish would completely change it. The weight and pendulum are also very nice. There is no black label in the base but I will give you one if you insist on having one. Ly-Seth Thomas #362.

Reproduction Seth Thomas, “Regulator No. 2” wall clock, 8 day, time only, weight driven movement in an oak case with painted metal dial.
This reproduction case is fairly faithful to the original Seth Thomas design. The case is not signed, but the brass movement is stamped with “American Clock / Made in USA “. The metal dial has been painted with enamel, and with the chapter and name have been silk screened on. The case front and sides are solid oak, and the back is plywood with veneered front surface. There is a loss in this veneer visible on the backboard to the right of the pendulum rod. The clock as two repair signatures from 1980, suggesting that it is probably older than that. The clock is in overall good condition. The metal dial has some paint loss where the bezel retaining ring rubs. Maintaining power spring does not seem to be engaged. The addition of an old (or aged) paper label in the bottom of the case adds to the verisimilitude.
