  • Antique Seth Thomas “Parlor Calendar” Model Clock

    Antique Seth Thomas

Catalog Description: Seth Thomas Clock Co., “8 Day Parlor Calendar”, ca 1863. This is a very early shelf calendar model, with 8 day movement that strikes a gong. Calendar mechanism is perpetual. Lyre movement is mounted on a seat board like many early clocks and is powered by 2 large round weights.Rosewood case is 30 1/2 inches, working door lock with key, 2 large full labels both “Plymouth Hollow”. 2 old repainted zinc dials. The middle glass is original and very pretty, but a break in the upper left corner. I sure wouldn’t replace it. This case with its many beveled edges, around the glasses, door edges, top, base, and sides, has remarkably good veneer. Surely there have been repairs. If they were, they were expertly done. This is an exceptional example of an early calendar clock. Ly-Seth Thomas No.90, No.103.

  • Antique Seth Thomas “Parlor Calendar No. 3” Model Clock

    Antique Seth Thomas

Catalog Description: Seth Thomas, “Parlor Calendar No 3″, C. 1876. Rosewood veneer case is 27” high, simple case, yet the top, base, and door edges, two bezels, have rolled edges. Normally the veneer on this model would be chipped on the bezels, top and bottom, but this case is 99.9% perfect. I may count a half dozen tiny chips, all on the top. The perfect label on the door says this clock was put to running in 1876. There is a second label in the case. The only knock to the clock is the dials. Original paper on original zinc pans has some wear, some bubbles, some discolorization, but, they are original and not all that bad. Key lock door, original pendulum and hands. 8 day, bell strike, perpetual calendar. We haven’t had a better Parlor No. 3. Ly-Seth Thomas, page 47; Ly-Calendar, page 259.

  • Antique Seth Thomas “Regulator No. 1” Model Clock

    Antique Seth Thomas

Catalog Description: Seth Thomas “Regulator No. 1″, C. 1860-1863. This is probably one of the first regulator clocks made by Seth Thomas. He purchased the bankrupt stock of Silas B. Terry in 1859 and began construction of his own line of regulators, this being the first. The round movement could well have been one of Silas B. Terry’s stock or made with the patterns and machinery purchased from him. It is very rare to find this movement in the Seth Thomas early regulators. Note how the weight is compounded in the top of the case using two pulleys, plus a third pulley holding the weight. Some restoration is needed to put the case back to original condition. The base will need to be made, order a seconds hand from Timesavers, and have the glass painted. There is no evidence that this case ever had a sliding partition separating the pendulum and weight and on which a label was placed. Instead there is a paper beat scale built into a small shelf on the door, and a label was put in the base. We believe the good zinc dial, bob, gold painted stick, and the flat weight, to be original to the clock. The case would be 34” if the base were in place. Ly-Seth Thomas, pages 107-109, movement and case pictured.
