in very good original condition. Except for a couple of chips in the dial and an incorrect minute hand, this clock would be outstanding. The case is the nicest I’ve seen, with original bronze finish in superior condition. It does run and strike, and is a very good example of this hard to find model. Height 17″ $450-650

Angel and Child. A lot of old gilt finish on the metal case. Typical French style movement copied by Seth Thomas, 8 day, striking on a bell, on the half hour, also like the French movements. Heavy beveled glass in the cast bezel, porcelain dial has repairs around the time side arbor. Signed movement, outside count wheel, running. No back metal cover but has the correct pendulum. A little damage on the back where it rests on the mantle, you must inspect closely, from the back. The clock is 16 1/2 inches high. Ly-American, Volume2, No.847.

To have been one of America’s largest clock companies they sure dropped the ball in the paint department. This clock has been refinished in Syrian Bronze. The old finish was completely removed and redone properly.Round French movement, outside count wheel and bell. The earlier Seth Thomas & Sons clocks used French movements. 8 day movement has been serviced and is running. Strikes half hours on the bell. Porcelain dial has a hairline, beveled glass with chips. If you should want it replaced I will give you the name of the man that makes replacement beveled glasses. Ly-American, Volume 2, No.844.

One of a small number of large statue clocks Seth Thomas & Sons made. This one is 27″ high and 20″ wide at the base. ST did so many things right I hate to criticize them but their metal dials lost their paint, their porcelain dials chipped easily, and their statue clocks all lost their paint. Every one I have ever had, had to be refinished, this one in Syrian Bronze color. All the old paint remnants were removed, sand blasted, and done right. Movement is the French type, round, outside count wheel, strikes a bell on half hours. It was serviced and is running. The porcelain dial is very nice, no chips or hairlines, and the heavily beveled glass has no chips. A big, good looking statue clock, restored, ready to put on the mantle. Eight-day Wall Regulator with Canadian Railroad Dial design.

This is surely one of the largest and most impressive wall regulators that we’ve ever owned!! The 68″ tall case retains its original Oak finish and the brass pendulum bob and weight are also original and undented. The original eight-day Seth Thomas No. 62 movement is clean and running well. The dial appears to be a later replacement with the Canadian Railroad style design (see photographs). However, the person from whom I purchased the clock vows that it came from a Canadian source and that the railroad dial is original to the case. It looks so perfect, I have my doubts…but with a clock of this importance, the question of the dial’s age won’t make a lot of difference to knowlegable collectors. The movement features a “Keystone” front plate and steel-cut pinions. The ‘dead-beat’ escapement has maintaining power so the clock will continue measuring time even when it is being re-wound each week. The long wood shaft pendulum is 26 3/4″ from suspension to the tip of the 4 9/16″ diameter( No. 27) ball. The large door has THREE locks to secure it snugly!! These are opened and closed using the winding crank. This imposing regulator will be the focal point of any room in which it is displayed. An unusual amount of mechanical apparatus squeezed inside. Mahogany cabinet case has just enough woodwork to be very attractive. The silver dial with painted numerals is very nice. Usually dials of this type tend to be worn pretty badly. Beveled and bowed glass in the brass sash. The 8 day signed Seth Thomas movement is marked “89AE”, the chime movement is marked “90”. It is running and chiming but service is recommended. For whatever reason Sonora Bell Chime clocks are now in great demand. Seth Thomas No. 719.

Jul 2020 – 161 Antique American Clocks Seth Thomas Sons & Co. “No. 5002”, ca. 1872. This 9-inch clock (with dome) is more commonly known as a candlestand clock. The base here is a replacement and the dome on this clock is cracked and taped together; it is not the original dome and is a bit too short. The gold rings on the candlestick are discolored. The signed porcelain dial is perfect and the hands are correct. The clock is running easily but the hour/half-hour strike is sticky. feels like the strike spring may be disconnected or broken. This is a 15-day movement and is signed on the back. sold one in July 2018 for $1275 but it was in near-perfect condition. Although sales of this model are scarce, I’d look for $150-$300 for this example.

The base to the clock is not original and was made to fit the dome, as the strikers in this model had an oval base. The signed porcelain dial is chipped at the ten o’clock position and around the winding holes. The base lines on the Roman numerals are worn off some of the numbers. The minute hand is not original. The movement is die stamped by the maker. Dome was removed for foto. Height 10.25 inches
