The case has been refinished and a few veneer chips filled in with stain (looks pretty good). The bottom 6″ of the case was replaced and is too long and the wrong configuration. See Ly’s Seth Thomas book for a foto of the correct profile. A good cabinet maker could construct this for you. A bit of the gold on the tablet is missing where the gold rod is showing (should be fruit depicted there). Most of the instructions are intact. With original square iron weights. Best part is the embossed Seth Thomas pendulum with a little image of the town of Plymouth Hollow (now Thomaston). Height (reflects long bottom), 43 inches

The case has been reveneered in walnut with a cherry stain (would have been rosewood originally). It is very difficult to veneer these curved surfaces and as a result it is a bit uneven and is starting to lift in some areas. The dial has been professionally repainted. The hands are original. Both glasses are original, as are the gilt pendulum rod and pendulum There is label inside the case, with some tears and losses, but legible; paper beat scale is intact. It is difficult to estimate this clock; if it had the original veneer in good shape, it would be worth around 4000 dollars. From 10 feet away it looks great. Height 42 inches

That date is stamped on the back of the case. About 80 percent of the label is inside but is very dark and beat up, as usual. Very dark walnut case, never cleaned, has lots of smoke accumulated. The case is complete, all original, has no breaks or repairs, and has the original door hook on the side. Original glass, pendulum bob, gong, painted dial, hands, and dial rings. The dial is signed, it is dirty, and has a couple of tiny paint chips. The 8 day movement is running briskly. Ly-Seth Thomas No. 561.

The case retains its original finish with some wear at the base and left side return. The paper dial is original with some wear. The hands are original. The stenciled door glass is original. The movement is signed. The Seth Thomas label has an overpasted label (worn) describing the Winward’s patent. The patent modifies the movement to be a time and alarm movement which deploys an alternating alarm bell strike and hour gong strike when the alarm time is reached. This process can be activated or terminated by use of a lever mounted on top of the case.

are differences in the two Newark’s which at first glance isn’t obvious. The bases are different. The side trim is permanently attached to the case body on this clock, but on the other the trim is attached to and is a part of the door. The main difference is the strike mechanism. This one doesn’t strike the hours, just alarms with 2 hammers, one hits coil gong, other hits brass bell, simultaneously and very loud. There is a shut off lever on top of the case, believe me you will find it quickly. This model is referred to as the “Woods” alarm. The paper dial is original as is the old glass, and the pendulum. Movement is 8 day and running. Ly-Seth Thomas No.212.

8 day, hourly strike on a Cathedral Gong, alarms on a brass bell, running fine. The only reason this clock canÕt be called original is the addition of a new paper dial, on the old zinc pan. The rest of the clock is great. It has the deluxe Seth Thomas brass pendulum and hanger, and the brass dial rings. Clock is running and striking. This is a really nice 22″ walnut case, with the usual rubs and dings, in other words not perfect but plenty nice. There is a nice black label inside. This model, although having the kitchen clock look, is really one of their early City Series clocks that were made with better workmanship and materials. Ly-Seth Thomas No. 212.

22 inches high walnut case has considerable cuts and designs on top and sides. What makes this clock unusual is the Woods alarm, which is wound weekly and only alarms once each 24 hours. It is a regular Seth Thomas movement, strikes a cathedral gong, alarms on a brass bell. Pendulum bob and dial ring is also brass. The glass is original as is everything on the clock. Red mahogany adamantine finish, adamantine onyx columns and sides. The clock case has never been cleaned, although not real dirty, but the so called, “gold-plated metal ornaments and feet” are almost black. There is some gold peeking thru so it may clean up and be real nice. A factory date stamp on the base is also 1917. Movement is 8 day, hour and half hour strike on a cathedral bell. Convex 5 inch dial and convex glass in the dull gilt sash. Painted metal dial looks like it would be very nice if only cleaned. Case is 16″ wide, 11 inches high. Complete and original except for a missing back door. Ly-Seth Thomas #1196.

Seth Thomas City Series clock, “New Orleans, V.P.”, ca 1879.

One of the first City Series clocks they made. The more decorative cases came along in the 1880Õs. The V.P. means Visible Pendulum. That seems odd, because a great many of their clocks have visible pendulums and they didnÕt call them V.P. This model, although in a plain 16 inch walnut case, was brightened up with nickel accessories, pendulum, bell, and dial rings. It was also just a little different in that the inside of the case was covered with a felt like material. Full black label inside, and black paint around the top of the base. 8 day movement, strikes the nickel bell on the hours, and runs smartly.Ly-Seth Thomas No. 211.

Seth Thomas City Series clock, the “New Orleans”, C. 1879.

This 8 day shelf clock is running like a charm, strikes the nickel bell every hour. The 16″ walnut case has black trim around the top of the base, which is correct. A good portion of the old black label is inside, brass pendulum, nickel dial rings around the original paper dial, now showing some finger nail scratches on the left side which is normal for a right handed clock winder and hand setter person. Case is slightly dirty and needs some polish. Ly-Seth Thomas #211.

This is a one day clock in near perfect condition. Everything original, very clean, ready to sit on the mantle. Note the nickel accessories, bob, bell, dial rings. A little flaking on the dial but for a Seth Thomas dial it is very good. The one day movement strikes the hours on the nickel bell. Full label inside. Ly-Seth Thomas #211.
